Serving Cape ann's reading needs for nearly 50 years
In 1974, Ann Banks was part of an organization evaluating Main Street and redesigning it to become more pedestrian friendly. After admiring the renovations that Harold Bell was doing on his buildings in the historic West End, she became inspired to open a bookstore. With the help of Harold, and the help of her son who built her our original bookcases, she opened the store on April 1, 1975. A few months later she moved the shop to our 61 Main Street location. Since then, we have been serving the historic Gloucester Community for nearly 50 years, offering hand picked titles in a variety of genres. These include bestselling, store favorites, and indie picks in: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Cooking, Graphic Novels, Children's, Young Adult, Nautical, Best Sellers, Store Favorites, and Local Literature.
